Select an Environmentally-Friendly Location

Where you hold your event will greatly determine whether or not you’re able to avoid making a negative impact on the environment.

While it is everyone’s responsibility to take care of the planet, unfortunately, not all venues do. When you plan, then, do your research on which venues in your area are known for being environmentally friendly. If you are unsure of whether or not a venue has taken the environment into consideration, call and ask them what steps, if any, they take to keep the place green.

Alternatively, you could consider holding your event outdoors, should the weather permit it. Holding an outdoor event automatically makes it greener since you don’t have to use as much energy to keep the place at a comfortable temperature or use a lot of lighting.

At the same time, holding outdoor events also reduces the risk of COVID-19 being spread.

You should also book guests at a nearby hotel to reduce the amount of waste exuded by driving.

Don’t Order for a Crowd

Many companies make the mistake of ordering food for a crowd when they attempt to plan green events.

Ordering too much, though, contributes to waste, which is then sent to landfills and produces greenhouse gases. So, if you want to reduce food waste, make sure to order for an exact number of people.

Partner with Sustainable Food Companies

Fortunately, many food companies have begun to take sustainability seriously. This means you have more options for companies who will make sure the food at your business event is handled in an environmentally healthy way.

Before signing a contract with a catering company, ask them about their environmental policies and what they do should you have any food leftover.

Avoid Single-Use Plastics at Your Green Events

Want to know what constitutes one of the largest culprits when it comes non-green events?

Single-use plastics. These include any plastic you only use once and usually take the form of disposable items, such as utensils or cups. Instead, you should replace these with actual silverware and dishes or use biodegradable options.
